Joshua Riibe ‘detained again’ amid search for Sudiksha Konanki

Joshua Riibe, the last person seen with missing University of Pittsburgh student Sudiksha Konanki, was detained again in Puerto Rico due to issues with his travel documents.

He was attempting to board a flight home after a Dominican judge had allowed him to leave the country. Riibe, a person of interest in Konanki’s disappearance, had his passport confiscated during multiple questioning sessions but has not been charged with any crime.

Konanki, 20, went missing on March 6 after being seen with Riibe at the beach in Punta Cana. Riibe later returned to the hotel alone, sparking concern. Her parents now believe she drowned in rough ocean waves, though a private investigator, T.J. Ward, suspects something else may have happened.

Riibe told investigators that after drinking on the beach, he and Konanki were swept out to sea by a strong tide. After rescuing her, he assumed she left, but later learned she was missing. Despite being questioned, Riibe has not been formally charged. Konanki’s parents have requested that authorities declare her deceased, and they do not suspect Riibe of wrongdoing.
