A concerned husband visited his doctor, seeking advice on how to handle his wife’s volatile temper. The doctor listened attentively, nodding along as the man described his wife’s daily outbursts.
The husband was at his wit’s end, not knowing how to calm his wife down or what triggered her anger. The doctor, however, remained calm and composed, a hint of a smile on his face.
“I think I have just the thing,” the doctor said, leaning forward in his chair. “Next time your wife starts to lose her temper, take a glass of water and swish it around in your mouth. Don’t swallow it, just keep swishing until she either leaves the room or calms down.”
The husband looked puzzled, but he was willing to try anything. Two weeks later, he returned to the doctor, looking refreshed and rejuvenated.
“Doctor, your advice was pure genius!” the husband exclaimed. “Every time my wife started to get angry, I swished that water around in my mouth, and it worked like a charm! She calmed right down. But I have to ask, how does the water do that?”
The doctor chuckled, a twinkle in his eye. “The water itself doesn’t do anything,” he said with a grin. “It’s keeping your mouth shut that does the trick.”
